Methodological information
1. Up to 1960 the data refer to the de facto population, but thereafter to the de jure.
2. The average annual percentage change of the population is based on the formula Pt=Po(1+r)t where Po is the population at the beginning of the period, t is the period of time in years, r is the average annual rate of change and Pt is the population at the end of the period.
3. Censuses after 1974 refer to the Government controlled area. Figures have been adjusted to include certain population groups not covered by the Censuses.
